What a great last few days we spent on the South Island! After leaving wine country we headed back into the mountains for one last Southern Alps hurrah. We spent a night hiking and camping at Nelson Lakes with a fun American couple on their honeymoon. Julia was excited to have a girl to talk weddings with after months of having only me to talk to.
We spent our last night on the South Island staying with a women we met on the Heaphy Trek named Judith. She and her husband Kim own a 1,000 acre deer farm surrounded by stunning mountains. They took us for a tour of their land on a 4-wheeler, fed us dinner, and put us up in a small guest cottage for the night, all because we returned a knife and book Judith accidentally left in a hut on the trek. Gotta love Kiwi hospitality!
After over two months of calling the South Island home, we're now on the North Island for one last week of travel before we head home!

What a great last few days we spent on the South Island! After leaving wine country we headed back into the mountains for one last Southern Alps hurrah. We spent a night hiking and camping at Nelson Lakes with a fun American couple on their honeymoon. Julia was excited to have a girl to talk weddings with after months of having only me to talk to.
We then continued on to the small town of Murchison where I rented a whitewater kayak and tagged along with a rafting trip down the Buller Gorge -a fun, easy class III run. Back at our hostel, Julia once again found a soulmate to talk weddings with -a nice Scottish couple who are also getting hitched this summer. I returned from kayaking to find Julia and her new friend Holly speaking at speeds and volumes Julia is usually only able to attain when conversing with her mother.
